WHAT IS YOUR POINT OF REFERENCE?

Matthew 14:25b-30

Jesus came to them, walking on the sea………..And Peter answered Him, Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water. He said, Come! So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water, and he came toward Jesus. But when he perceived and felt the strong wind, he was frightened, and as he began to sink, he cried out, Lord, save me [from death]!

The Christian life, the Christian walk should be characterized by the virtues taught in the Word of God. Peter, in the above scripture did not just jump into the water to exercise his faith, He saw Jesus doing it and he had a reference point to know and believe that if the master bid me to walk as he’s walking, I will do so.
In our contemporary days, we have ignorantly and foolishly set our focus on human personality or so-called human achievements and accomplishments rather than JESUS Himself. We pay more attention to things and happenings around us than the message of the bible itself. It is just like the crowd following Jesus in His days observing miracles, seeking for how to be fed than the message he's preaching. We read more books written by man these days, but pay less attention to the ultimate book itself, the BIBLE.

Just think about this that nothing in life is worth fighting for. Your best clothes is someone's rag; Your account balance is someone's church offering; Your so much cherished and adorned fiancé/wife or vice versa was someone's Ex. Every single prostitute you see in a brothel or so called adult clubs or on the street at night was at some point in time a virgin. The record you are chasing to set would soon be broken by someone that seems a non-issue today. So what is the squabble all about and what is your point of reference? What is it that really matter to you in life?

Life is too small for anyone to feel big or better than anybody. We're all naked to death says Steve Jobs.  Nothing can save us from it. I hate to see people who brag about wealth, beauty, intelligence, level of education, fame and material possessions. It is even worth less in the church of God with all the titles that we create that inadvertently create barriers to our upliftings. Someone wants to be called a Bishop, Senior Pastor, Reverend Doctor etc, when in fact such individuals could not prove the level of anointing they purportedly carry. There's nothing you have achieved in life that no one else has never gotten. So, why the noise you are making, as if life would end with you or your
household?

As I ask the question again, What is your point of reference? Are you so caught up with life issues that you want to be like your so-called role model? In my short years of dwelling on this planet earth, I have discovered much as I have learned over and over again that there's only one thing that is worth bragging about, "LIFE IN GOD ALMIGHTY". So, why is it that you are in dilemma of who to worship and/or where to go? Why do you think that the instrument or the tool God is using to shape your life is worth all the recognition you accord to them?

So, be good to your fellow human being always and make friends out of them. We all need each other to get this assignment of “occupy till I come” done. Forget the title. Let your light be reflected in him that even those who do not yet know how to come to God can begin to seek Him. A Roman soldier named Cornelius was one such person (Acts 10). Because he was truly seeking God, his prayers were heard. God helped him. Through this help Cornelius became a follower and friend of God. Prayer is an important part of this friendship.

Always remember that the people you trample upon on your way up a ladder might be the same people you will pass on your way down, so cause no problem for others because if you do, they'll become your very problem one day. Someone trying to prove a point said “If one day you feel like crying, call me. I don't promise to make you laugh but I can cry with you. If one day you want to run away don't be afraid to call me. I promise to be there running beside you. But if one day you call me & there's no answer, come to me, perhaps I need you.

The Bible is about Jesus Christ, about the love of God demonstrated in His gift of Jesus Christ, for love comes from God and God is love. In this sense then, every page of the Bible reflects the character of God and the love of Christ, and we should try to retain this perspective as we study the scriptures. OUR focus should be on Jesus, because He's our Reference Point, not any man that is anointed or gifted.
